May I See Your Proof of Insurance Please?

Hey guys. It's been a while since I've done this whole blogging thing. During my hiatus, quite a few things have happened around here. We’ve set a new world record and broke it again, added a couple new family members, and a hurricane just to name a few. The girls finally convinced me to get back on my keyboard so here it goes.

Harvey had a huge impact on our shop and our entire community. We’ve never had to deal with such a flood and I never want to again. Flood insurance has been on everyone’s mind lately, but have you ever thought about what would happen if your auto mechanic doesn’t carry the proper insurance - flood or liability for that matter? Think about this….

1) Shops that carry the right insurance tend to be more established.

Insurance isn’t cheap, but a reputable shop values their customers and their own means of earning a living enough to protect it. It is very important to pick a shop that has the right insurance and is able to handle whatever may happen to your vehicle. Typically what you'll find is most shops that have the right insurance have been around for a long time and aren't going anywhere anytime soon. This is what makes them able to afford top notch insurance. And odds are that if they've been around that long, then they must be pretty good at what they do!

2) You can have peace of mind.

With proper insurance if something does happen to your vehicle during repair or a test drive, you can rest assured that you won't be forced to pay for all the damages. As we saw a few months ago something as strange as 51 inches of rain can happen overnight in Houston, and if the shop does not have proper insurance you could get back a moldy heap of metal and stinch and a worthless title. Emphasis on the stinch because I don't know what was in that Harvey "water" but it was nasty!

It’s easy to just ask to see the shop’s proof of liability insurance before you leave your investment with them. We are not offended by this at all and are amazed that nobody ever asks. Go ahead - we’re proud of ours because it ‘ain’t cheap!
