Fastest 60 Foot Time in a 2018 Mustang

June 17, 2019

So last week we went over how our twin turbo Mustang’s first track outing went. After going out the first round, we starting digging deep to make this car even faster. Last Wednesday night, we took the Mustang back out to the track to do some testing and see exactly what this car can do. By the end of the night, we managed to not only make an 8 second pass, but we ended up setting the new record for the fastest 60’ in a 2018 Mustang with a 1.26! Keep in mind, this car still has the full interior PLUS a roll cage.

Why is the 60’ time so important?

By measuring the time it takes for the car to cross the first 60 feet of the quarter mile, you can have a good indication of how well the car launched. If you can improve how the car launches, then you can minimize the 60’ time which leads to quicker 1/4 mile passes and ultimately more races won (hopefully)! Drag racers often use the 60’ time to determine whether the adjustments they make between runs helps or hurts their efforts.

Why not use the total elapsed 1/4 mile time?

From when the car launches to when it crosses the finish line, there’s a million things that have gone on inside that car. By breaking down the run into the 60’, 330’, and even 1/8 mile times you can see what the car is doing at exactly what point and identify areas for improvement. This is why you’ll hear racers talk about wanting to improve the 60’ or 330’ times because if you can improve one piece of the run then the run as a whole gets quicker.

This Car Has a History of Breaking Records

You may remember that back in January of last year, this car also broke the record for the fastest Naturally Aspirated (NA) 2018 Mustang in the 1/4 mile. Now that we’ve added twin turbos it holds the record for the fastest 60’ time in a 2018 Mustang. My son, Boyd, has piloted the car both times. The previous record was a 1.29 so the fact that this car was able to break it by 0.03 seconds with the full interior plus a cage is indicative of a bright future. This is just the beginning so stay tuned!
